I like your articles a lot. I have just ordered your book from Amazon.

I am an Indian (East Indian) working in the Washington state since last 6 months as an IT Professional. My daughter is 15yrs old and just arrived from India.

She completed her 7th Grade in India and dropped out of school twice in her 8th Grade due to my frequent movements. She is intelligent and sharp in studies, though a bit lazy. She is good in reading and writing of English, though poor in spoken English.

In order to make her easy transit to academic and cultural changes, I am planning to put her in home schooling (online/independent study) for an year or two before I could place her in a regular school.

Can you advice me on some good options? also, I am not sure of any compulsory attendance requirements by State of Washington. Can you please advice on this too?

My guess is that the very best choice for your daughter is Insight School of Washington. Your state is one of the lucky ones that has a free online charter school option available.

Insight Schools are busy offering programs in a number of states. It was bought not long ago by the same company that owns the University of Phoenix.

I would caution you that just because it is free does not necessarily mean it is your best choice. You will want to look carefully at it, but also look at some of the other choices on this site. There are some excellent schools out there and, to be honest, Insight is fairly new. That does not mean it is not a good choice, but you would do well to look around.

As to schooling & homeschooling laws in your state, I am not sure what the rule might be, but if your daughter is in 8th grade, she certainly needs to be in some kind of school whether that is online or off-line.

Thanks for the very useful information.

I am very excited about Insight School, though I am a bit confused. Their web site says it is a public/charter school, but their accreditation is from NAAS (Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. However, I could not find any reference to this NAAS on the directory of Accreditation Agencies (www.chea.org).

Can you kindly throw more light on this?

NAAS is the recognized accreditor for K-12 schools in that part of the country. They are, sort of, part of the Northwest Association.

It is definitely legitimate accreditation.

One more option I am considering is Penn Foster (http://www.pennfoster.edu). Though it is not free like InSight, about $1200 for the entire 4-year High school seems to be a good deal.Also, Penn Foster is both Regionally and Nationally Accredited.
