14 year old boy, loves computers, lack motivation 2008/03/13 00:20 Karma: 1
This young boy loves his computer, and can figure anything out on it fast. When it comes to books, and learning subjects he has little interest in, he looses all motivation.

He also is very mechanical, and loves to fix things. He started using tools at an early age. He took my bedroom door off its hinges at age 2.

He has admitted that he needs daily help from a dedicated tutor. I am available on a daily basis to help him.

I am finding the accreditation issue to be very challenging and confusing. I am going to purchase Tom's book soon to see if I can get help from that.

I just dont want to put my kid in a direction that would not be good for him.

We live in Great Falls Montana, and I am considering online high school. Any recommendations for this kid? Thanks very much. Marcella

First things first. We are running a contest here and because you were one of the first to post in the forum since it started you have won a free copy of the book! Just send your address to info(at)bestonlinehighschools.com.

Now on to your question. In order to be successful in an online environment, you need to be motivated to succeed. It is most certainly an important criteria for success.

Can you list things that your son is motivated to do?

What you need to find is a program like Laurel Springs School that can provide additional support if it is required. There are few out there like that.

I think in order to be successful you would need to explore schools in that direction.

However, I would be happy to pursue this further. Ask more questions and I will give more answers!
