I am highly doubtful that your former high school would accept the credit you earn online. It does not mean that it could not happen, but the odds are not great.

I think you probably need to go in the opposite direction. You take the credit from that former high school and apply it to a new school. This is the more common way to solve this problem.

However, I do understand that there are several reasons for why you might want the diploma from that particular school. If that is so, you need to talk with an administrator (and not a records clerk). It may be possible to do this. However, you would likely be considered a part of the current graduating class (and not the class from whenever you went to high school previously). The farther up the food chain of administrators, the more likely the possibility of making this happen.

Thoughts?

And you are wise to be careful. There are definitely schools online that are fake. There are a few ways to avoid the fakes:

1. Post the name of the school here and I will give you my best guess.
2. Check to see that it's accreditor is listed at http://www.chea.org.
3. Avoid high schools who say that you can get a diploma by taking an online test.
4. Avoid high schools who say that they offer life experience credit.

GEDs are a different story entirely. There is a simple rule with GED online: GED preparation online = real. GED Test online = fake. The only provider of the GED is the American Council on Education (ACE). They, at present, wisely do not allow the GED to be offered online.

Hi solo1685,

It's never a bad idea to go back and get that diploma. As to whether a high school would accept IATA courses for credit, I am not aware of any that do so. However, it could be as simple as no one asking them. If I were you, I would contact the schools listed here (http://www.bestonlinehighschools.com).

Also, I can tell you who I would approach. Look at the commercial programs like Keystone, Citizens, and others. They have a little more leeway in what is acceptable. But I think I would send an email to each. Should more than one school be able to help you, it could be useful to you to be able to compare programs.

As for the SATs being helpful, that would depend on your present age, your intended school, and the country in which you would like to go to college. If you let us know that, I may be able to be more helpful.
