Some insight please 2008/06/13 12:53 Karma: 0
I just recently purchased both Tom Nixon books in hopes of continuing my education, preferably a high school diploma that will be accepted by some (online)colleges.

I am currently 22 years old I live in San Antonio,Texas.I do not recall how many credit I earned in high school,I attended two different high schools for 3 years before dropping out.I am computer savvy and I enjoy time alone and doing things at my own pace.

I am intrigued by Penn Foster High School which I found in your latest book and research online I am comfortable with the fees and curriculum.
I just wanted to know if their is a free online education offer by Texas or nationally ?

Also if not is Penn Foster the best solution or are their similar programs that you can recommend ?

Texas does have two free online high schools:

Texas Virtual Academy at Southwest

Texas Virtual School

At 22, though, I believe you are too old for either option.

I do think Penn Foster High School is a good option for adults. You get a nice cross between a quality accredited program and a reasonable cost.

However, first you have a homework assignment: Contact your two high schools and get copies of your transcripts. You need to know you are at to know where you need to go.

Questions?

I'm filling out the paper work for my transcript,it ask if I want an official(Sealed, embossed and bears the registrar’s signature) or unofficial transcript.I guess since it's for my personal use it doesn't matter correct?

I would get one of each. The advantage to having a sealed one is that you can then submit that directly to the school. However, you cannot open it before hand (because then it becomes unofficial). The official ones are usually a little more expensive, but worth it.

The reasons why you would want a transcript from both are:

1. Many schools will require that you submit one from any and all schools you have attended; and

2. Your second school may not have accepted some courses in transfer that your online high school might.
