14 yr old not very self motivated 2007/08/12 14:31 Karma: 0
My daughter is going into high school this year and is highly motivated by social interaction. Unfortuneately, for too many reasons to list, trad. high school is not an option where I live this year. She really wants to become a doctor or a pharmacist and wants to take college prep classes. She is not particuliarly gifted academically but loves reading human interest stories, and will work hard in math when pushed, and has a busy schedule volunteering at the hospital and year round competative swimming.
I homeschooled her last year to catch her up in academics. I was successful but she has had enough of just Mom. She needs a school that keeps the courses simple, academic and provides good student/teacher communication if needed. I liked Brigham Young's online school courses. She thought Excel might be good. It is hard to tell from just the websites. Would you recommend those schools or is there another you would recommend?

Thank you.

I think the Brigham Young courses are quite good, but I would seriously recommend checking the rules for to whom they will give a diploma. In the back of my mind, I seem to recall that the diploma program was only for adults.
