Orion High School

4500 W. Illinois Suite 203
Midland, Texas, 79703
USA

Orion High School was founded by teachers who have a passion for helping learners be successful.  Orion opened on August 2007 after a year in development.  Currently, Orion serves learners from Michigan, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Indiana, and Illinois.  Orion is currently a candidate for CITA and SACS Accreditation.

Orion High School requires 23 credits for graduation.  Transfer credits are accepted from public school, home school, or other private school.  Orion's requirements include a foundational grammar and composition course to help learners become better prepared as they advance through their course of study.  Orion also requires four credits in mathematics, with the fourth credit being a choice of Personal Finance or Pre-Calculus; and Orion requires four credits in science, including Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Astronomy.

Orion's required SAT study helps potential first-time college freshmen be better prepared to take the SAT.  Along with SAT study, Orion also requires a Technology Proficiency Course, Communications course, and a Health/Physical Education Course.

Orion's courses are based on the National Standards for the core courses; and on National Work-readiness qualities to better prepare our learners for the competitive job market.  Orion's courses are developed and facilitated by certified teachers - we call our facilitators, mentors.  Course development follows the Orion Protocol for Content Development, which includes rigorous checks-and-balances to ensure high quality.  The Orion Protocol includes requirements for consistent, live, interaction with learners, focused on substantive feedback and facilitation aimed at ensuring that learns find content relevant and useful.

Orion also partners with public schools to help with dropout prevention; additional course completion; and with the provision of certified teachers through Orion's system.

Orion's e-learning system was developed by the founders, so upgrades to the system are driven by customer requirements.  Orion's courses ocnsist of up to ten modules, with the final examination being the sole-source for the learner's grade.  Learners have up to three months to complete courses, and final examinations are taken on the 1st day of the month.

Orion's first-day-of-the-month start dates provide potential learners opportunity to enroll year-round.  While traditional holidays are observed by office staff, Orion is open year-round, 24/7.

Orion is proud to provide high quality private school education at the lowest per course tuition of any online school (from our internal study).  Full-time learners pay an average of 166.00 per course; home schoolers pay 180.00 per course; and non-Orion students (taking courses for transfer back to public or private school) pay 225.00.
